By the late ’40s sound had now been recorded in basically the same way for almost 65 years. Meaning that a live performance would be captured in real time. Then, guitarist Les Paul had the concept that one person or one group could actually record multiple parts within the same performance. This technique was done originally in the 1940’s with acetate discs, and no one did it as extensively (or as well) as Les Paul.
