Automated Radio #4: Special Music Shows

Special Music Shows

Some stations like to set aside some of their air time for specialist music programmes – for example: one hour of Drum ‘n’ Bass on Friday evening, or Worship music on Sunday morning. Thankfully, with some radio automation systems, you are able to schedule a particular type of music for set times of the week.

However, in order for this to work, you will need to place your songs into genre categories. It’s a big task to start with, but worthwhile in the long run.

Of course, if you are playing a special music programme, you will also need to schedule specially produced programme identifiers during that time. One at the beginning (Welcome to…), one every two songs (you’re listening to…) and one at the end (Join us next time….). Again, thankfully you can programme your automation system to play these for you.

So, your automation system can schedule and play blocks of specialist music at designated times. Of course, you will need to promote it. But, we’ll talk about that tomorrow.

Happy broadcasting!
